POSH Vintage : About Us : Patti Stoecker

Native New Yorker Patti Stoecker, formerly Patti Stewart, was just a kid during the Mudd Club days; dancing the night away with the likes of the Ramones, Debbie Harry, David Johansen, and the downtown art crowd. Fashion-obsessed, she designed her own clothes and organized late-night fashion shows in New York clubs.

As a fashion model, she spent three years working in Milan. During her modeling days in Europe, she graced the pages of Italian Vogue, was dressed for fashion shows by Giorgio Armani, and hung out quite a bit with Mr. Fiorucci.

Upon coming home to Manhattan in the mid-80s, she fell in love with and married Karl Stoecker, a photographer famed for his glam photography work with Roxy Music. A highly respected career photographer who did still-life advertising for YSL, Lancome, and many other well-known brands, it is Karl's photography that lends Posh Vintage its sophisticated look. Karl's son, Luke Flynn, grandson of the infamous screen actor Errol Flynn, shared Karl and Patti's Soho loft, and eventually moved to Miami Beach with them and their two little girls, Sami & Sheena.

After years of collecting vintage pieces in Europe, New York, and Miami, Patti began consigning her finds in South Beach's local vintage boutiques as a hobby. Her line of expertly tie-dyed vintage slip dresses sold so well that she found it difficult to keep up with the demand for her candy-colored, one-of-a-kind creations. The time was right to start Posh Vintage.

In her book Big City Junk, Mary Randolph Carter lovingly described the Stoecker's 1929 home as "a wreck of a house in Miami Beach", and featured it in a chapter of her book entitled "Patti's Tie Dye Heaven." Today, Patti runs Posh Vintage from that same house with its magical garden, just a stones throw from the ocean, in the heart of South Beach. Patti's unique and beautiful vision is what makes the site so special; the feeling is of looking at an eclectic, yet cohesive mixture, not the chaotic hodgepodge of other vintage sites.

High-end designer pieces and unknowns mix it up at Posh vintage in the same way that they would at a great party: The resulting crowd is gorgeous and interesting. For example, you'll find Ossie Clark dresses, Pucci creations and Bill Blass coats sharing space with 70s day dresses, uber-cool magazine clutches, and the creme de la creme of vintage rock and roll tees.

What's next for Posh Vintage? There's a lot going on!

Our recently opened showroom is fast becoming the shopping destination of choice in South Beach for visitors and locals alike. We are thrilled to meet our loyal customers in person when they come to Miami. The Posh House section is currently undergoing a major renovation: This section promises to do for your home what Posh has been doing for your closet for years! It will be an extension of the style and flavor that has made Posh Vintage a favorite of girls from across the globe. We're pleased to be featuring the New Designer section, which showcases original pieces by contemporary Miami designers.
